«Лондонские достопримечательности»

Цели урока:

-Развивать навыки устной речи, навыки диалогического и монологического высказывания

-Воспитывать интерес к культуре изучаемого языка

-Закреплять полученные знания, учить использовать в речи устойчивые выражения, лексический материал по теме.

Предварительная подготовка:

-Учащиеся составляют диалоги, используя изученные устойчивые выражения.

— Несколько учащихся заранее готовят небольшие исторические справки о нескольких достопримечательностях Лондона

I .Организационныймомент

Good morning, boys and girls! I`m very glad to see you. Today I suggest you to travel around London. Who can answer What London is it?

Of course it is the capital of Great Britain. But before we start our travelling let`s repeat the words that will be necessary for us.

-But we will travel in another marvelous country- The United Kingdom of Great Britain.


-Look at the map. There you can see Great Britain which consists of 4 parts: Scotland on the north, England on the south, Wales is near England and the small part of the country is Northern Ireland is on the east. All parts have their capital. , England- London, Wales –Cardiff, Scotland- Edinburg, Northern Ireland- Belfast.

-Now let`s listen to some new facts about the most interesting places of London as the capital of Great Britain.

Westminster Abbey is a symbol of English tradition at its best. The coronations of nearly all English kings and queens since William the Conqueror have taken place here. Many of them are buried within the Abbey.

Beneath the roof of this Gothic building there are also the graves and memorial slabs of statesmen, philosophers, men of letters and other distinguished people. Here you can see memorials to Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Geoffrey Chaucer, Alfred Tennyson, Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy.

I want to tell you about Tower Bridge.

Tower Bridge was opened in 1894. It takes its name from the Tower of London. The hydraulic mechanism can raise and lower the bridge in about one and a half minutes. The covered walk way between the two towers is opened to the public and offers a spectacular view of London. The city`s greatest monument, St.Paul`s Cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren beetwen1675and 1710 to replace the old Cathedral that was largely destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. Christopher Wren is buried there. Among the many memorials to famous men within the Cathedral are the tombs of Wellington, victory of Waterloo, and Nelson, hero of Trafalgar.

-Oh, what a good idea!

— Look, we are near the Trafalgar Square.

— What is situated in the center of the square?

-It`s a column of Admiral Nelson. He was a man who served his county best. He was brave and skillful admiral.

— Fantastic! I see the Houses of Parliament. It`s a marvelous sight! Especially the Big Ben.

— Yes, it is the Clock Tower,320feet high and is famous for its immense bell, known as Big Ben.

— Super! Thank youfor your tour. It was the tops!

— Not at all. I`m very glad thank you like it. Good-bye.

— Good-bye!

— Thank your very interesting dialogue. Let`s continue our travelling. Let us answer my questions:

-How many people do live in London?

(About seven million people live in London)

-How old is London?

(London is more than thousand years old)

-What are themost marvelous sights are in London?

(There are some interesting places in London. They are Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, St. Pauls Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Houses of Parlament and some others.)

— I also told you about some facts from the history of England. Today you know some facts about Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace is the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen and her family. It isn`t open to the public. The first monarch who took residence there was Queen Victoria. When Her Majesty is in residence the Royal Standards files over the east of Buckingham Palace.
